Shanghai, China — VivoCity Shanghai – a large scale, interactive and experiential mall – that spans a gross floor area of approximately 120,000 square metres (sqm) officially opened today. The celebratory event was graced by the local government officials of Minhang District and Xinzhuang Town, together with representatives from Mapletree Investments Pte Ltd (“Mapletree” or “the Group”) Board and senior management.

The introduction of “VivoCity”, Singapore’s flagship brand to Shanghai, marks another milestone in Mapletree’s further expansion into China’s commercial real estate. It sets to enliven the lifestyle of Minhang’s residents and infuse vitality in the district.

Building on the success of VivoCity Singapore – the country’s largest shopping mall, VivoCity Shanghai is a five-storey mall that features more than 280 shops. It will deliver multi-experiences to shoppers with a variety of elements ranging from entertainment, fashion and accessories, food and beverage, kids’ learning and lifestyle.

Mr Goh Chye Boon, Mapletree’s Regional Chief Executive Officer of China said, “We have seen the business and consumer trends in Minhang evolving, and we are confident that in addition to the good tenant mix at VivoCity Shanghai, our ample experiences in operating VivoCity malls in Asia will offer an outstanding shopping environment and experiences to our shoppers.”

To create a whole new shopping experience for Minhang’s residents, VivoCity Shanghai has brought in new brands who will be making their first appearance in Shanghai. The exciting list includes Cinema City – a premier cinema under the renowned movie producer, Raymond Wong’s Pegasus Entertainment; Fanpekka – a popular Finnish conceptual children theme park by Japan’s AEON Group; Rimbaland – a Singapore nature science centre which provides fun learning experience on science and nature ecology; leading Singapore elite education centre – Pony Running; and others. To kick-off the impressive line-up of events, and to celebrate the opening of VivoCity Shanghai, a five-day Drum Festival will be held from May 26 to 30. The festival which is co-organised by VivoCity Shanghai aims to promote China’s traditional art culture and performance. The first of its kind, the drum performance will showcase drummers from different parts  of the world. In addition, there will be a two-day “Jungle Music Festival” which will present artistes including DING Shuang and HE Dawei, and other engaging events at the Sky Park.

The retail mall is strategically located within the fast emerging Xinzhuang business district in Minhang – fringe of Shanghai’s Central Business District (CBD).
