SINGAPORE – Mapletree Investments (“Mapletree” or “the Group”) proudly presented an urban sketching exhibition – Art & Artists Among Us – featuring the works from the local art community Urban Sketchers Singapore (USkSG) and the working populace at Mapletree Business City (MBC). The exhibition, held at Alexandra Retail Centre from 11 November to 24 November 2024, captivated a diverse crowd of visitors, drawing them into the artful depiction of everyday life at MBC.

The exhibition, a follow up of Mapletree Community Month 2024, showcased 22 sketches submitted by members of USkSG who had their monthly Sketchwalk at MBC as well as participants from a sketching workshop conducted by illustrator and Eisner-nominated comic artist Andrew Tan in August.

This exhibition demonstrates the positive impact of art in creating communities and enriching one’s perspectives. The exhibition sought to ignite community interest in the arts by displaying sketches by the participants who explored the grounds of MBC to capture its architectural beauty. MBC houses 15 artworks and artefacts, seamlessly integrated into its walkways, car parks and green spaces.

Each artist’s distinctive portrayal of these spaces at MBC invites visitors to discover the property and its surroundings. The sketches offer a fresh perspective, reimagining familiar sights.

USkSG is part of a global community of sketchers from all walks of life who enjoy sketching scenes of where they live and travel. Urban sketching is an immersive experience that invites individuals to gain an appreciation for the nuances of an environment and capture the essence of a place through on-location drawings.
