Singapore, 22 November 2019 – More than 50 children attended another successful Mapletree Youth Futsal Camp, organised by Mapletree Investments (“Mapletree” or “the Group”) for the third year running. Children from Mapletree’s tenants, beneficiaries and employees, aged between eight to 18 years old participated in the one-day camp which was held at Mapletree Business City (“MBC”) on 21 November 2019.
The youth participated in a series of drills to improve their physical, technical and mental speed, as well as to improve their ball control skills. They also had a chance to put their skills and techniques to a test with friendly, albeit exciting matches at the end of the drill sessions.
Mr Hiew Yoon Khong, Mapletree’s Group Chief Executive Officer, said: “The Camp is part of Mapletree’s ongoing Corporate Social Responsibility efforts, providing a platform for youth from different backgrounds to interact and learn futsal skills. We are encouraged by the increased number of participants this year, and there were some youths who have joined us for all three editions. Such an event not only adds vibrancy to MBC, it also makes the business park a place for all to work, live and play in.”
Three-time participant You Yamane, 15, said: “I’ve enjoyed all three editions of the Camp, as I learnt different things each time and made new friends, even though there was a light drizzle.”
Brothers Ramesh Mukul, 13, and Ramesh Mukunth, eight, were first time participants at the Camp. They said: “It’s our first time participating and we found the Camp very fun. We look forward to next year’s session!”
In addition to the annual Mapletree Youth Futsal Camp, the Group also established the Mapletree Youth Resilience Programme in 2016 to provide sustained financial aid to youths who have shown grit and drive to pursue continuous education despite their circumstances. Since its establishment, Mapletree has contributed more than S$800,000 to Voluntary Welfare Organisations which work with youths.
