- More than 50 participants in attendance, including youth from Boys’ Town and Beyond Social Services, as well as children of employees and tenants of Mapletree Group
SINGAPORE – Running in its 4th year, Mapletree Investments (“Mapletree” or “the Group”) is pleased to bring back Mapletree Youth Futsal Camp this September school holidays following the easing of the Covid-19 community measures. To accommodate the positive response from previous years, this year’s camp was held over two days from 6 to 7 September 2022 at Mapletree Business City, for youth between eight to 12 years old and 13 to 15 years old respectively.
More than 50 youths with and without futsal experience from Mapletree Group’s tenants, beneficiaries and employees participated in the camp. With enthusiasm and high energy, the children learned to dribble and kick the ball, as well as improve their physical, technical and mental speed through a series of drills. After the drill sessions, the participants also had the chance to put their skills into practice in friendly matches, which saw new friendships formed.
Mr Edmund Cheng, Chairman, Mapletree said, “I am happy to see our young participants take part in this year’s futsal camp with much enthusiasm. It is encouraging to see them hone their futsal skills while learning the importance of teamwork and sportsmanship. This camp is organised as part of Mapletree’s ongoing Corporate Social Responsibility efforts to support youth across backgrounds through education, arts and sports programmes.”
Brendan Heng, 11 years old, said, “I was excited to learn that the futsal camp was brought back this year, especially since Covid-19 had put a stop to such events for two years! I had a great time brushing up on my rusty futsal skills and also made new friends at this camp. Thank you, Mapletree!”
Lucas Vong, 13 years old, said, “It has been a great experience for me! The coaches were knowledgeable about the futsal techniques and could guide everyone along despite all of us having varying levels of skills. I think it was great to sweat it out today and I had fun!”
The Mapletree Youth Futsal Camp is part of the Group’s ongoing efforts to support youth from less privileged backgrounds, which include the Mapletree Youth Resilience Programme (MYRP). Established in 2016, MYRP aims to provide financial support for youths with potential and drive to pursue an education despite their circumstances. As of 31 March 2022, the MYRP has committed over S$340,000 of financial support for more than 50 youths across various local social services agencies and educational institutions.
