Singapore – As a Singapore-based company with a growing presence in Japan, Mapletree Investments today affirmed its long-term commitment to the nation with a corporate and staff donation of more than S$1 million (JPY66,675,500) towards the relief and construction efforts in Sendai City. The amount comprised a S$1million contribution from Mapletree and S$7,000 (JPY466,728.5) which was collected over a two-day donation drive organised by the company’s staff in Singapore.
Mr Terence Heng, Mapletree’s General Manager in Japan, presented the pledge letter to Mr Nobuyoshi Inaba, Vice Mayor of Sendai City at the Sendai Municipal Office.
Mapletree’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Mr Hiew Yoon Khong said, “Mapletree is saddened by the earthquake and subsequent tsunami which hit Sendai City and the widespread damage and loss to the region. Our corporate donation is an expression of our commitment to and belief in the ability of the prefectural government and its people to rebuild the region.”
“We are inspired by the resilience of the people of Sendai City and hope that our combined contribution will go some way towards alleviating their needs. Mapletree also looks forward to the opportunity to partner relevant parties to re-build Sendai and its surroundings,” he added.
