SINGAPORE – Mapletree Investments (“Mapletree” or the “Group”) is pleased to have successfully conducted the Mapletree Youth Futsal Camp 2017 for 21 youths aged between 13 and 18 years old on 30 November 2017, at the futsal courts of its Singapore flagship development, Mapletree Business City (“MBC”).

Aligned to Mapletree’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) pillar to support communities, including youths-at-risk, the futsal camp was a fun way to kick start the school holidays for youths from YouthReach and Beyond Social Services (“Beyond”), and children of employees working at MBC and PSA Building with futsal. The youths learnt basic futsal techniques and rules of the game from experienced Singapore Soccer Academy coaches. National footballer Shannon Stephen also taught the youths some ball tricks and dribbling strategies.

This is a follow-up to the inaugural Mapletree Futsal Challenge1 held on 16 March 2017 where 12 teams from Mapletree, MBC tenants, and youth beneficiaries participated.

Mr Hiew Yoon Khong, Group Chief Executive Officer, Mapletree said: “It is heartening to see our youths honing their futsal skills while learning about sportsmanship and teamwork. As a long-term supporter of youths at-risk, Mapletree will continue work with VWOs in supporting the education, arts and sports programmes for this group of beneficiaries.”

“I made many new friends and enjoyed playing the friendly matches. I learnt the importance of communicating with my teammates and also improved my dribbling skills,” said Insyirah bte Zuraimi, 14.

Fellow teammate, Clement Low, 13, echoed similar sentiments: “It was an interesting experience and I look forward to attending more of such camps. I learnt how to shoot better and honed my soccer skills.”

“The futsal camp was fun, and I enjoyed it very much. I would like to attend more of such events in future,” said You Yamane, 13.

To date, Mapletree has contributed S$640,000 to support the education, sports and arts programmes of local VWOs, including Boys’ Town and YouthReach, which seeks to uplift youths from challenging financial and social circumstances by providing residential assistance and development programmes.

Over the longer term, Mapletree aims to expand the scope and scale of the futsal camp and organise similar activities for other youth-related charities, and further establish Mapletree as a strong supporter of at-risk youths in Singapore by working closely with VWOs and supporting their youth programmes.
