Mapletree presents orchestral renditions of nostalgic melodies at VivoCity on 26 & 27 May 2023

  • SCO’s collaboration with Mapletree continues for the second year

SINGAPORE – For the second time, Mapletree Investments (“Mapletree” or “the Group”) is presenting a live performance at VivoCity Amphitheatre by Singapore Chinese Orchestra (“SCO”). On the back of last year’s overwhelming turnout, this year’s concert, SCO Goes To VivoCity will run for two days instead of one.

Proudly presented by Mapletree, the concert will be held on 26 and 27 May 2023 at 7.30pm. Led by SCO Associate Conductor, Moses Gay, more than 30 musicians will perform a potpourri of classic hits and melodies of yesteryear that are bound to tug at heartstrings of the audience. Some of these nostalgic tunes include familiar favourites, “The Dagger Society Suite” 《小刀会组曲-序曲》and “Summer Night” 《夏之夜, as well as familiar TV melodies and Pop music tracks, “Medley of Television Drama Theme Songs” 《电视主题曲联奏》and “Medley of Singapore Chinese Pop” 《华彩飞扬》.

Mr Edmund Cheng, Mapletree Chairman, said: “We are proud to announce our expanded commitment and support to SCO as part of Mapletree’s corporate social responsibility programme. Music not only connects people, but it also enhances their mental well-being. As such, we actively work with partners like SCO to continuously provide the community access to such ensembles and cultivate an appreciation for art and music.”

In 2022, tickets to the one-evening only performance at VivoCity were sold out almost 2 weeks to the show. This year, Mapletree and SCO have added one more show to the community outreach performance series at the mall for more people to enjoy it.

Mr Terence Ho, SCO Executive Director, said: “The Singapore Chinese Orchestra received a resounding applause for last year’s performance at VivoCity. This year, we look forward to an even more amazing crowd of audience. By bringing the beauty of Chinese music to the community, we look forward to working closely with Mapletree in the near future.”

About Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO)

Founded in 1997, the Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) is Singapore’s only full-time professional Chinese orchestra. Led by Principal Conductor Quek Ling Kiong since 2023, it is known for its excellence in traditional Chinese music and unique Singapore flavour.

The SCO makes its home at the Singapore Conference Hall, and has toured major cities in Asia and Europe, such as Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Gwangju and Berlin. The orchestra made history when Butterfly Lovers, recorded with award-winning violinist Joshua Bell, broke into the Top 20 in Britain’s classical music charts in 2023.

As part of its mission to spread the love of Chinese music to the wider community, the SCO also conducts regular outreach programmes at schools, hospitals, and other venues.
