Mapletree Presents the Third Edition of Once Upon a Time, The TENG Ensemble’s FIRST LIVE PERFORMANCE in Two Years!

SINGAPORE – The TENG Ensemble (“TENG”) opens its curtains to a live and in-person concert at the VivoCity Amphitheatre after a two-year hiatus on 11 and 12 February 2022. Presented by Mapletree Investments (“Mapletree” or “the Group”), the concert entitled Once Upon a Time, will champion both enthralling originals and popular music. Tickets to the concert are available for purchase from 17 January via Peatix and can only be bought in pairs, or in limited numbers of single seats, due to prevailing Safe Management Measures.

The concert will feature three guest performers, the first being local singer-songwriter Alfred Sim. Alfred won Project Superstar in 2014 and has represented Singapore on various international stages – this time, he will both host and perform in Once Upon a Time 2022. In addition, Mapletree-TENG Academy scholars Kee Teng Hwee (22 years old) and Ee Anzhi (11 years old), will also grace the stage with their guest performances.

Since 2018, Once Upon a Time has been part of an annual series of concerts that celebrated the Lunar New Year and Mid-Autumn Festival. Due to the pandemic, the concerts were on hold in years 2020 and 2021. In 2022, the series aims to returns in time to beckon the Lunar New Year of the Tiger.

Mr Edmund Cheng, Mapletree Chairman, said: “Mapletree is pleased to bring back Once Upon a Time 2022 at the VivoCity Amphitheatre as part of our effort to make the arts more accessible to the community. Since our first concert with The TENG Ensemble in 2018, the series has been very well-received and we look forward to friends and families enjoying the live concert together once again, in a safe environment.”

Dr Samuel Wong, Creative Director of The TENG Company, said: “It has been two years since we have had the chance to perform live for our audiences and many of our fans have been asking us when we would be able to take the stage again. We truly treasure this opportunity to connect with our audiences with the power of live music and can’t wait to go up on stage to perform.”

The concert will run from 7:30pm to 8:30pm on 11 and 12 February at the VivoCity Amphitheatre. During the concert, audiences can expect to experience original pieces from The Forefathers Project, which saw its milestone concert sold out at the Esplanade Concert Hall in 2019, and the first live performance of the widely popular Genshin Impact Medley. Lastly, although the concert is free seating, individuals are to refrain from intermingling between the demarked zones and are required to be fully vaccinated except for children under 12 years old. All live performances are subject to the prevailing Safe Management Measures of the period.

About The TENG Company

The TENG Company is a leading not-for-profit Singaporean music charity that harnesses the power of music for the greater good. TENG reimagines the possibilities of music, innovates within tradition, enriches the lives of the vulnerable and empowers lifelong learning. The Chinese character 鼟 (pronounced ‘tēng’) is an ancient representation for the sound of the drum, symbolising our aspirations to bring cultures together and to foster social cohesion. Through innovation and creativity, we strive to transform the conventional notions of music from our Chinese heritage and expand the boundaries of this art form beyond its traditional roots. Our three core pillars of Artistic Innovation, Industry Empowerment and Social Impact aspire to use music as a force for good and to empower future generations of musicians in and beyond Singapore.
