SINGAPORE – Mapletree Investments (“Mapletree” or “the Group”) is pleased to announce that it is now a corporate sponsor of The TENG Company (“TENG”), a local arts company that focuses on performance, education and research in Singaporean Chinese instrumental music. The sponsorship is in line with Mapletree’s support for the arts and education and will work with The TENG Company to nurture talents.
Under the sponsorship, the TENG Ensemble, TENG’s core ensemble, successfully put up the first of two public showcase performances on 24 February 2018 to an audience of over 600 people at the VivoCity Amphitheatre. The second public performance will be in the second half of 2018.
Both Mapletree and TENG also strongly believe in the importance of education and grooming the next generation. As such, Mapletree and TENG will be launching the first Mapletree-TENG Academy Scholarship targeted at young talented individuals in need of financial assistance to support their musical education. Up to four scholarships will be awarded for a two-year period (2018-2020) and students will be under the tutelage of established music educators and practitioners from The TENG Academy.
Mr Hiew Yoon Khong, Mapletree’s Group Chief Executive Officer, said, “Supporting the arts and education are two key pillars of Mapletree’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) framework. We hope that the sponsorship will raise the awareness of and appreciation for Singaporean Chinese instrumental music in the wider community, and that the Mapletree-TENG Academy Scholarships will provide opportunities for young music talents to learn from the best and hone their skills in local and overseas performances led by The TENG Company.”
“It is part of our vision as educators to provide amateur and professional Singaporean musicians with an eco-system to grow and create music. With Mapletree’s support, we are enabled to propel this ambition through public performances like the one at VivoCity, as well as a scholarship that will support young aspiring Chinese musicians whose learning may have been hindered by financial circumstances”, said Mr Yang Ji Wei, Executive Director of The TENG Company. Following the success of their first public showcase with Mapletree, The TENG Ensemble is excited to stage a second one, and Mr Yang encourages young music talents who require financial assistance to apply for the Mapletree-TENG Academy Scholarship to help achieve their dreams.
Applications for the Mapletree-TENG Academy Scholarship close on 16 March 2018, and shortlisted applicants will be notified at a later date for the audition and interview.
