SINGAPORE – In an effort to continue providing the SOTA Primary 6 (“P6”) Art Competition 2021 with a platform to display the 50 finalists’ artwork and to promote the arts, Mapletree Investments Pte Ltd (“Mapletree” or “the Group”) is pleased to present the SOTA Primary 6 Art Competition 2021 Exhibition (“the Exhibition”) at VivoCity Singapore from 1 to 14 September 2021.
The Exhibition, which is in its second year, is part of the Group’s Corporate Social Responsibility efforts under the education and arts pillars. Besides bringing the arts closer to the communities, the Group hopes to spur interest in the arts amongst young children.
Mr Edmund Cheng, Mapletree’s Chairman said, “As a long-time supporter of the arts, our collaboration with SOTA aims to inspire more young talents in the community to be engaged in such creative endeavours. VivoCity is an iconic venue with a healthy stream of visitors, and we are happy to host the Exhibition at the mall again. We hope that the visitors of the mall will appreciate the artwork by these young talents like we do.”
Mapletree has supported the SOTA P6 Art Competition for the third year. Mapletree launched the Exhibition at its flagship retail mall VivoCity in the year 2019 and continued to support the competition in the year 2020. Due to the COVID-19 Circuit Breaker, the exhibition was not held in the year 2020.
Mrs Mary Seah, SOTA’s Principal said, “SOTA is delighted to work with Mapletree once again, and thankful that Mapletree is providing this additional showcase opportunity for the participants. We hope that viewing the world through the eyes of these young artists will inspire both the young and old.”
In conjunction with the Exhibition, a public Instagram competition is being held. Visitors are invited to take a selfie with their favourite artwork and upload it onto Instagram with the hashtag #SOTAP6ArtComVivo. Five entries will be selected to win $30 Mapletree vouchers each. More information is available at www.instagram.com/mapletreeaitc.
To date, the Group has committed S$48,000 to fund the SOTA P6 Art Competition from 2019 to 2022. The competition this year received more than 1000 submissions representing over 166 primary schools, up from over 800 submissions received in 2020. The three themes, Looking Out of My Window, Space Zoo and Tropical Fruit challenged the students to draw inspiration for their artworks from their homes and their imaginations amid the COVID-19 situation.
Mr Cheng added, “Year after year, the art pieces by P6 students never cease to amaze me. The students are able to express and communicate their experiences during the pandemic through their art.”
