Mapletree staff combined Solidarity Payment to support employees of tenants and service providers with over $85,000

  • More than 100 Mapletree staff in Singapore have voluntarily contributed their Solidarity Payment to the Mapletree Community Sharing Fund (MCSF)
  • MCSF provides cash grants to more than 180 employees of Mapletree’s tenants and service providers who are on No Pay Leave due to Covid-19 situation

SINGAPORE – Mapletree Investments (“Mapletree” or “the Group”) is pleased to announce that it has collected over $85,000 under its Mapletree Community Sharing Fund (MCSF). The fund consolidated the Solidarity Payment from more than 100 Mapletree staff in Singapore on a voluntary basis and provides cash grants to more than 180 employees of tenants and service providers working at Mapletree retail properties.

MCSF is the Group’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiative to help the employees of its tenants and service providers from Mapletree Business City, Alexandra Retail Centre, VivoCity, HarbourFront Centre Retail, HarbourFront Tower Retail and 18 Tai Seng Retail in Singapore who are on unpaid leave to cushion the financial impact of Covid-19.

The unprecedented Covid-19 situation in Singapore has affected a large number of businesses and the extended circuit breaker has resulted in many retail tenants having to temporary cease their operations and employees requested to take no pay leave.

Mr Hiew Yoon Khong, Mapletree’s Group Chief Executive Officer said, “The Mapletree Community Sharing Fund is a collaborative effort from the Mapletree management and staff. We are heartened that many have contributed over and above the Solidarity Payment received by them and their households. We hope that our contribution can help to alleviate some of the financial challenges faced by the community we work with during this period.”

Mapletree has actively reached out to its retail tenants’ and service providers’ employees and invited them to apply for MCSF. Mapletree is grateful to the Building Construction and Timber Industries Employees’ Union (BATU), including its Executive Secretary Mr Zainal Sapari, for helping us to publicise MCSF including on his Facebook.

At closing on 27 April 2020, more than 230 applications were received. Successful applicants have received a cash grant of $200 from early May as a timely Labour Day tribute to the integral roles they play at our retail tenants and service partners. Recipients who are still on No Pay Leave for the month of May can look forward to a second payout at the end of May.

The eligibility criteria and more details of the MCSF can be found in the electronic direct mailer at Annex that was sent to tenants and service providers in early April.

Applications for Mapletree Community Sharing Fund include staff from retail outlets at Alexandra Retail Centre.
