Mapletree welcomes back crowd-favourite Peranakan Sayang to Mapletree Business City

SINGAPORE – Mapletree Investments (“Mapletree” or “the Group”) is pleased to announce the return of crowd-favourite performing arts group Peranakan Sayang to Mapletree Business City (“MBC”) on 26 April 2025, marking its third concert performance at the Group’s flagship asset. The concert is part of Mapletree’s slew of SG60 initiatives to commemorate Singapore’s 60 years of independence.

Known for its engaging performance style, Peranakan Sayang is set to deliver an unforgettable afternoon of entertainment. The one-hour concert will showcase a lively repertoire of Peranakan hits and familiar folk songs such as Rasa Sayang, Di Tanjong Katong and Bengawan Solo, presented with modern music arrangements. It will also feature humorous parodies to encourage audience participation through sing-alongs.

“Peranakan Sayang’s performances have always ignited joy and connection with our audiences at MBC. Their return underscores Mapletree’s commitment to enriching communities by broadening access to the arts,” said Mr Edmund Cheng, Chairman, Mapletree.

“It is wonderful to have the support of Mapletree to stage our Peranakan Sayang concerts,” said Baba Alvin Oon, Creative Director of Perankan Sayang. “It provides us the platform to showcase our Baba Nyonya culture in innovative and entertaining ways as we bring the community together for an afternoon of cultural fun and celebration. The familiar folk tunes will bring warm nostalgic memories for the senior members in the audience while the updated music arrangements will excite the younger ones and hopefully spark their interest in our unique culture.”

Reaching over 51,000 broadcast views to date with their digital debut on Mapletree Arts in the City on Air during the Covid-19 pandemic, Peranakan Sayang captivated audiences further with a lunchtime concert at MBC in September 2022 and a full-fledged concert in June 2023, which drew over 500 enthusiastic concert-goers.

Mapletree has a long-standing commitment to supporting the arts, disbursing over S$7 million to exclusively fund a diverse range of arts-focused Corporate Social Responsibility (“CSR”) initiatives since Financial Year (“FY”) 2010/2011. In addition, Mapletree regularly curates highly popular community concerts at MBC and VivoCity. The Group hosted close to 10,000 audience members across 17 shows in FY23/24, featuring popular acts such as The TENG Ensemble, Singapore Chinese Orchestra, Singapore Police Force Band and Singapore Chinese Dance Theatre.

Peranakan Sayang’s ‘Something Old, Something New’ tickets are available for purchase at S$10 via tinyurl.com/somethingperanakansayang, with two showtimes – 2pm to 3pm and 5pm to 6pm – available. In addition to the concert, attendees can visit the ‘Something Peranakan’ Bazaar from 12.30pm to 6.30pm, featuring Peranakan-related vendors selling unique wares, memorabilia and light Nyonya snacks. Proceeds from ticket sales will be used to defray event costs.

Additional SG60 initiatives from Mapletree will include the commissioning of a music video by The TENG Ensemble and a concert with Singapore Chinese Orchestra at VivoCity, among several others. These events will be held in the coming months to celebrate Singapore’s 60th birthday.
