SINGAPORE – The TENG Company (“TENG”) is pleased to announce Mapletree Investments’ (“Mapletree”) continued support of the Mapletree-TENG Academy Scholarship for the next two years! The scholarship which helps young talents from less-privileged backgrounds pursue their passion for Chinese music is now open for applications until 28 February 2023. Initiated by Mapletree and TENG in 2018, the two-year scholarship funds and provides passionate youths with a holistic programme to learn and develop their practical and theoretical skills in Chinese instrumental music.
To date, 22 recipients have benefitted from the Mapletree-TENG Academy Scholarship.
Delivered through TENG’s education arm, The TENG Academy, robust one-to-one lessons, mentorships and performance opportunities are provided to ensure a well-rounded and effective curriculum. The journey of music education is often costly and may often be hindered by a student’s financial circumstance. This scholarship programme plays an integral role in making Chinese music education accessible for these individuals1. There are four placements being offered this year, with an increase in funding totalling S$11,000 each. The scholarship is tenable for two years.
“TENG’s brand of traditional Chinese music brings eastern and western influences together, celebrating heritage in a way that modern audiences can better appreciate. Thus, we are pleased to once again work with TENG as part of Mapletree’s corporate social responsibility commitment, to enable passionate young musicians to further their journey and continue spreading the joy of traditional Chinese music.” said Mr Edmund Cheng, Mapletree Chairman.
“Music has the power to bring comfort and joy to our loved ones and those in need. When words fail, music speaks. It is our hope that by grooming these young musicians, they can remember that they are empowered to do more for our community beyond their individual pursuit of artistic excellence. I would like to express our utmost appreciation to Mapletree for their continued support in grooming the next generation of Singaporean musicians with TENG.” said Mr Yang Ji Wei, Executive Director of TENG.
“The scholarship has supported me in my musical journey for four years and I could not be more grateful for it. Without it, not only would there be no platform for me to perform, I would not be able to afford individual instrument and music theory lessons; leaving me little opportunity to hone my musical skills. I’m proud to be a part of the Mapletree-TENG Academy Scholarship.” said Ryan Lim Ming Zheng, one of the Mapletree-TENG Academy scholars and musician of The TENG Ensemble.
Besides covering instrumental lesson fees, the scholarship also funds course material and examination fees. Applications for the scholarship will close on 28 February 2023. Prospective candidates will be notified of their interview and audition date by 11 March 2023.
