  • More than 25 children, between Kindergarten 2 to Secondary 4, will be able to participate in online learning

SINGAPORE – Mapletree Investments Pte Ltd (“Mapletree” or “the Group”) is pleased to donate 15 upcycled laptops to the Bukit Batok Community Club (“BBCC”). The laptops were refurbished with new hard disks and Microsoft Office Suite to provide children from low-income families in Bukit Batok access to online tuition platforms and materials.

Ranging between Kindergarten 2 to Secondary 4, more than 25 children were able to benefit from these laptops deployed since June 2020 at Talent Beacon Community Care Ltd (“Talent Beacon”) which has been providing free tuition lessons to children from low-income families in the Bukit Batok area.

“Mapletree is pleased to do a small part by upcycling our laptops that will go the extra mile to give online access to less-advantaged children especially during this Covid-19 pandemic under the guidance of their pro bono tutors. We strive to empower individuals by providing equal learning opportunities and access,” said Mr Hiew Yoon Khong, Mapletree’s Group Chief Executive Officer.

On the longer term, the donated laptops would also be jointly mobilised by BBCC and Talent Beacon to provide access to a greater variety of materials and resources to supplement learning for youths.

Mr Murali Pillai, Adviser to Bukit Batok Grassroots Organisations shared, “We are appreciative of Mapletree’s gift of refurbished laptops. Children residing at public rental flats and attending tuition classes will be able to use these laptops to access the e-tuition programmes. With the right tools, I believe the children will be motivated to focus on their learning.”
